After rounds of preliminary playoffs, the finals of the Misericordia University Punt-Pass and Kick competition were set with Chris Brown, Steve Clemson, Anthony Agnone, Noah Kubissa, Chris Myers and Eric Smith as the participants. After three amazing rounds of stiff competition, Brown, Clemson and Agnone advanced to the finals.

Agnone pushed his way through the jeering crowd and knocked out a punt and a kick of 34 and 35 meters, respectively. He finished off his final round with a pass of 30 meters for a total of 99, but was disappointed that he didn’t surpass the 100 meter total because of what he called a slip on his punt.

Brown stepped up and blasted a 41 meter punt into a stiff wind, which he said would have surpassed 60 meters if the wind had died down. He followed that up with a punt of 35 meters and a pass of 25 for a grand total of 101. This put him in 1st place with one competitor to go.

“The Clutch man” Clemson, the true favorite coming into the finals, stepped to the line with the crowd starting to get rowdy.

He made a last-minute decision to switch up his order by throwing his pass first to get a good number on the board in what he felt was his best event.

His decision proved to be wise as he threw a 35 meter bomb which was the best pass of the finals. Just trying to keep it going, he floated a 34 meter punt for a 69-point total with one event remaining. “I only need a 33 meter kick to clinch this thing,” said Clemson.

As the deafening crowd roared, he pelted a high floating kick with backspin that appeared to get caught up in the wind. The crowd silenced as the ball dropped to the ground, somewhere between the 30 and 35 meter marks.

After some tight measuring, the score of 34 meters was announced which made Clemson the champion with a total of 103. After signing a few autographs, he disappeared into the waning sunlight.
