After a second straight Freedom Conference championship, the Misericordia men's soccer team has placed two of their captains on the NSCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic All-Region team. Goalkeeper
Andrew Loyd was selected for the second time while midfielder
Joey Scanlon earned his first All-Region honor. Both players made the second team.
Loyd, a senior, was a first-team All-Freedom selection. He started 19 games in goal, with an 11-5-3 record, 6 shutouts, and an impressive 0.97 goals against average.
He was MVP of the Freedom Championships for the second consecutive season after making 11 saves in the conference final, a 1-0 shutout victory over Manhattanville.
Scanlon, a junior, was the team MVP and a first-team All-Freedom selection after leading the Cougars in scoring with 28 points (12g, 4a).
Scanlon led the Freedom Conference in conference-only scoring and scored a string of huge goals to help the Cougars win the championship.
He scored game-winners against Eastern (to clinch a playoff spot) and King's (to lock up home field for the semifinal) before pulling MU back from a two-goal second half deficit with two header goals in the Freedom semifinal match against Wilkes. He added the game-winner in the Freedom title match at Manhattanville.
