Misericordia freshman
Sam Helmstetter has been named to the 2009 NSCAA women's soccer All-Region Team for the Division III Mid-Atlantic Region. Helmstetter was a third-team selection.
Helmstetter, a striker, was selected as First-Team All-Freedom Conference and was also chosen as the Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year. She finished second on the Cougars with 7 goals and first with 8 assists for a total of 22 points on the season.
Helmstetter started in all 20 games, with three game-winning goals. She played a part in every goal in a 5-4 conference win over FDU-Florham, with 2 goals and 3 assists, before scoring her first career hat-trick against Delaware Valley.
The freshman also scored the winning goal as MU clinched a home playoff game with a victory at King's and then assisted on the Cougars' only goal in a 2-1 Freedom semifinal loss to Eastern.
