Misericordia University baseball standouts
Nate Newman (Ulster, PA/Athens) and
Mike Murphy (E. Moriches, NY/C. Moriches) have been named to the ECAC South All-Star team.
Both players were named to the second-team.
A sophomore shortstop, Newman hit .414 with 67 hits and 45 runs scored. He matched a team single
season record with nine homeruns and set school records with 47 RBI and 110 total bases.
He also earned the Coach's Award.
Murphy, a senior third baseman, started all 40 games for the Cougars this season. He batted .436 and set
team single-season records for runs (60), hits (71), walks (32), stolen bases (30) and triples (7). He finished with a walk-to-strikeout ratio of 4-to-1 and ended his career with a 67-game on-base streak.
He set MU career records for stolen bases (45) and triples (12) and was named team MVP.
The Cougars finished 22-18 while setting a school record for wins in a season.
