Christine Marks (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) and
Ethan Eichhorst (Drums, PA/Hazleton) have been named the 2011-2012 Wendy's Athletes of the Year at Misericordia University.
Marks, a senior on the women's basketball team, claimed the honor for the second straight season after leading the Cougars to their first Freedom Championship and NCAA Tournament berth.
She was a first-team All-Freedom Conference selection for the third straight season and earned d3hoops.com All-Region honors for the second straight year.
In addition, she was d3hoops.com All-American honorable mention selection and was one of 10 finalists for the Josten's Trophy.
She averaged a double-double with 19.1 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game while becoming Misericordia's all-time leadering scorer (1,644) and rebounder (903).
Marks set a school record with 167 free throws and is MU's all-time leader with 510. She also became MU's all-time leader in free throw % (84.3).
Eichhorst, a senior on the men's basketball team, was named the Freedom Player of the Year after leading the Cougars to their first Freedom Conference title and a trip to the NCAA's.
He was aFirst-team All-Freedom selection for the second straight season and was named to the d3hoops.com All-Region team.
In addition, he was named NABC All-District, D-III News All-American and participated in the Reese's
D-III national All-Star game.
He led the team in scoring (18.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg) and finished fourth all-time on MU's scoring list with 1,476 points.
He set a school record in free throw percentage (88.5) and finished 13th in the nation.
