The 13th time wasn't lucky for the Misericordia University softball team at the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championships, Sunday at Anderson Field.

Playing in the PAC title game for the 13th consecutive – and final – time, the Cougars suffered a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to Neumann.

The game was actually three games rolled into one with Neumann taking a 5-0 lead after four innings.

Misericordia picked up a pair of runs in the fifth and took a 6-5 lead with four runs in the sixth.

The Cougars added an insurance run in the seventh for a 7-5 lead.

After Tournament Co-MVP Kim Kirkpatrick led off the bottom of the seventh with a homer, losing pitcher Katie Eiden got two quick outs on a grounder and a strikeout.

Neumann loaded the bases with a single sandwiched between a pair of walks before Samantha Duncan laced a two-run single into right-centerfield to win the game.

With Tournament Co-MVP Angela Sebasto carrying a no-hitter into the fifth, Misericordia's came alive when Kristen Norris singled and Gina Urbon and Brittany Bradburn walked to load the bases and Courtney Novajosky singled to left field to make it 5-2.

After Neumann centerfielder Sheila Munson took a homer away from Hollie Sarnak leading off the sixth, the Cougars put together a four-run rally.

Nicole Hoskins walked and Urbon drove in pinch-runner Gina Jorgensen with a two-out double. Ashley Ballard walked and Nicole Wenner and Brittany Bradburn drilled back-to-back doubles to give MU a 6-5 lead.

Misericordia made it 7-5 on Norris' sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh to set the stage for Neumann's rally.

Neumann took a 1-0 lead in the third on Sebasto's RBI-single and Christina Walsh made it 3-0 with a two-run homer in the fourth.

Sebasto led Neumann with three hits and had nine strikeouts while allowing seven hits and four walks.

Duncan added two hits for the Knights.

Bradburn and Novajosky led Misericordia with two RBI each as seven different players collected base hits.

Eiden took the loss with three runs allowed in 3.1 innings of relief.

Neumann, 28-12, will make its second NCAA Championships appearance in three years while Misericordia, 32-12, will await a potential ECAC playoff bid.
