The MU softball team won their second consecutive ECAC championship.

MU Wins ECAC Softball Championship!

The Misericordia University softball team won their second consecutive ECAC South championship, Sunday at Juniata.

After losing to Centenary, 6-1, to force a decisive game, the Cougars beat the Cyclones, 3-1, to claim the title.

Courtney Novajosky had two doubles and scored two runs while Gina Urbon added two hits in the championship game.

MU shortstop Nicole Wenner was named the tournament's Outstanding Player.

Misericordia scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie in the final game.

Kat Lucenti led off with a double and scored on Novajosky's double to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead. Novajosky moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a throwing error.

After Centenary grabbed a 1-0 lead on a solo homer to start the game, the Cougars tied the score in their half of the first. Novajosky led off the bottom of the first with a double, moved to third on Lindsay Miller's bunt, and scored on Hollie Sarnak's sacrifice fly.

Lucenti tossed a four-hitter to pick up the win.

In the opener, Centenary broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh.

Maria Kidron scored MU's lone run on Sarnak's sac fly in the sixth.

Novajosky, Nicole Hoskins, Urbon and Lucenti accounted for MU's four hits in the opener.

Katie Eiden allowed six hits and just one earned run in 5.2 innings while absorbing the loss.

Misericordia finished 29-15.
