The Misericordia University softball team won two games to advance to the finals of the ECAC South championships, Saturday at Juniata College.
The Cougars rallied for a 6-4 win over top-seeded Juniata in the opener before dispatching second-seeded Centenary, 13-2, in five innings.
MU, the defending ECAC champions, improved to 28-14 and will face the Bethany/Centenary survivor in the title game, Sunday at noon.
Nicole Wenner led the way with five hits on the day, including a double, a homer and six RBI against Centenary.
Nicole Hoskins added three hits and two RBI against Centenary while
Hollie Sarnak and
Gina Urbon both drove in two run.
Kat Lucenti tossed a four-hitter to earn the win.
In the opener, the Cougars scored four runs in the sixth inning to beat Juniata. Wenner ripped a solo homer just inside the left field foul pole and
Katie Eiden added a two-run double.
After pinch-hitter
Ashley Dinko walked,
Jillian Castaldi re-entered and eventually scored on a passed ball.
Trailing 2-0, the Cougars tied the score in the fourth.
Lindsay Miller single and Sarnak was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved up on a passed ball and Miller beat the throw home on Wenner's grounder to shirt.
Sarnak scored on Urbon's sacrifice fly.
Juniata went ahead 4-2 in the fifth to set the stage for the Cougars' sixth-inning rally.
Wenner and Eiden both had two hits.
Eiden scattered seven hits over seven innings to pick up the win on the mound.
