Misericordia Swim Teams Take Home Opener

10/22/2008 10:04:31 PM

The Misericordia University swim teams won their home opener Wednesday night against conference rival FDU-Florham in convincing fashion. The women's team won 133-62, and the men's won 112-38.

Greg Vossler and Jeff Clark highlighted the night. Vossler had a lifetime best swim in the 50 free with a 22:33. Clark, last season's MVP, broke his own pool record in the 100 Breast with a 1:01.13.

“There are still a lot of bumps to smooth out early in the season,” head coach, Jason Morini, said. “Today was better than last Saturday, and the coaching staff is happy with that.”

The women's team bounced back from a third place finish at the Bloomsburg Relays Saturday with a strong showing Wednesday.

“I think we showed that have great depth on the women's roster,” Morini said. “They rebounded from some disappointing swims last week.”

Alaina Trent, the women's two-time MVP, won in 200 Free with a 2:05.18 mark. Trent, Marisa Plant, Michelle Lacroce and Danielle Basile set the tone early with a first place finish in the 400 Medley Relay—the first event of the night.

The Cougars head to East Stroudsburg Saturday, Nov. 1, to take on Kutztown and East Stroudsburg.
