Junior defender Kristen Gedon had never made a collegiate appearance in net before last week but has just been named the Freedom Conference Defender/Goalkeeper of the Week after backstopping the Cougars to a pair of crucial conference victories.

The Cougars were left without a backup when starting goalkeeper Morgan Myers was injured before Wednesday's conference match-up with Wilkes. Gedon filled in and made four saves in leading MU to a 2-1 victory, making several tough second-half plays to hold off the Colonels.

With 20 minutes to play, Gedon made a diving save on Wilkes' Krista Zawistowski. Soon after, she stopped Ashley Edwards and then was able to cover the rebound before it could cross the goal line.

Wilkes' final opportunity came on a free kick with 45 seconds to go, but Gedon came out to punch the chance clear.

Gedon continued her winning streak on Saturday as MU defeated Delaware Valley 3-1 to move into second place in the Freedom standings. The junior made two saves in the victory.
