Four Cougars Win Singles Openers

Four Misericordia University women's tennis players won their first round singles matches at the MAC Championships.
Abby Searfoss beat Jenny McKee of Alvernia, 8-4, at first singles.
At third singles, Ashley Mangabang won 8-1 over Ashley Woodcock of Albright and Courtney Otto beat Jennifer Bader of King's, 8-2 at fourth.
Ellyn Wingert won 8-4 over Maria Cometa of King's at sixth singles.
Maura Haupt fell to Hannah Tobin of Eastern, 8-2, at second singles and Lauren Verret lost 8-4 to Alena Marani of E-Town.
Searfoss dropped her second round match to her former high school teammate, Kate Steiner of DeSales, 6-3, 6-2.
Mangabang lost 4-6, 6-4, 5-10 to Allison Burkhardt of E-Town in the second round while Otto fell to Alexis Donner of Wilkes, 6-3, 6-3.

Misericordia University's Abby Searfoss and Ashley Mangabang advanced to the semifinals at first doubles at the MAC Women's Tennis Individual Championships, Friday at the Kingston Indoor Tennis Club.
Searfoss and Mangabang beat Bekah Roland/Hannah Tobin (Eastern), 8-5 after sweeping Rebecca Reynolds/Amiee Snyder (Lycoming), 8-0 in the first round.
In the second flight, Maura Haupt and Courtney Otto lost to Allison Burkhardt/Madison Pipkin (Elizabethtown), 8-3 in the second round after opening with an 8-3 win over Kelly Drinkard/Erika Niemann (Lycoming).
Lauren Verret and Jen Spott beat Caitlin Bedford/Morgan Brady (Lebanon Valley), 9-7, before losing to Michelle Knight/Rebekah Shanaman (Wilkes), 8-0 in the second round.
Searfoss and Mangabang will play in the semifinals, Sunday.
In the singles draw, Searfoss and Mangabang were both seeded fourth at first and third singles, respectively while Ellyn Wingert earned the third seed at sixth singles.
