Five Misericordia men's soccer players have been selected to the All-Freedom Conference team after leading the Cougars to their second straight league championship.
Senior goalkeeper
Andrew Loyd, junior midfielder
Joey Scanlon and freshman striker
Andy Bush were all named to the first team. Senior midfielder
Cody Harman and junior defender
Tyler Anderson were picked for the second-team.
Loyd earned his second straight All-Conference honor by posting a 0.92 goals against average for the season, with five shutouts. He saved his best performance for last, making 11 stops in the conference championship win over Manhattanville.
It would be difficult to claim that another player was more valuable than Scanlon, who not only led the league in conference-only scoring despite playing as a midfielder, but also scored a string of huge goals to help the Cougars win the championship. He scored the game-winner against Eastern to clinch a playoff spot, added the winner against King's to clinch the second seed, scored twice in the second half to erase a 2-0 Wilkes advantage in the semifinal, and then scored the winning goal in the championship match against Manhattanville.
Bush won the starting striker spot as a freshman and finished third on the Cougars with seven goals and two assists, including a pair of game-winners.
Harman is an All-Conference player for the second straight season. After being a first-team defender last year, he switched to center midfield in 2009 and was also honored in his new position.
Anderson completed a trifecta for the Cougars, with all three MU captains being selected for the All-Freedom team. It was the second All-Conference nod for Anderson. The junior was a lock-down defender and earned his spot through several sterling defensive performances, including in a 1-0 shutout of Eastern.
