The Misericordia University women's swim capped off a spectacular weekend by winning the 2009 MAC Championship, Sunday at the Wilkes-Barre CYC.
Abby Kocon won the 100 free and was part of the winning 400 free relay team as the Cougars amassed 676 points.
Kocon set a school record in the 100 free (54.86) to edge teammate
Alicia Bryk (55.20).
Kocon and Bryk teamed with
Amanda McHugh and
Alaina Trent to set another school record to win the 400 free relay (3:42.25).
MU's
Jessica Grant was named the MAC's female Rookie of the Year after an impressive runner-up finish in the 1650 free (18:53.22).
McHugh finished fourth (2:33.73) to lead six Cougars on the podium in the 200 breaststroke.
Jessie Williamson and
Megan McChesney finished sixth and eighth, respectively.
Crissy Condus (2:21.51) and
Michelle Lacroce (2:30.53) finished third and sixth, respectively, in the 200 butterfly.
Chelsea Mixon added an eighth place finish in the 100 free.
MU head coach
Jason Morini was named MAC Women's Coach of the Year.
For the men,
Jeff Clark set a school and CYC pool record to win the 200 breaststroke (2:11.26) while leading the Cougars to a third place finish.
Mitch Finch was third in the 200 back and
Robbie Jacobs was third in the 100 free.
Jacobs, Finch,
Greg Vossler and
Brendan Dougherty set a school record during a third place finish in the 400 free relay (3:16.09).
Mike Dougherty (200 back), Vossler (100 free) and
Kyle Geier (200 fly) all recorded fifth place finishes while
Nick Cannizzaro was sixth in the 1650 free.
Brendan Dougherty was eighth in the 200 breaststroke.
