The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season in its home opener against Cazenovia. The Cougars (1-2) overcame an early 3-0 deficit to defeat the Wildcats 11-6.
Pat McTague, Sean McGuigan, Lee Blair and Seth Swiatkowski each scored two goals.
The Cougar offense was slow to get on the scoreboard, but once it was on, they had no intention of slowing down. Zach Buckley scored the team's first goal with just 46 seconds remaining in the first quarter to make it 3-1.
Buckley's was the first of eight unanswered Cougar goals. McTague quickly netted the first goal of the second half with 11:12 to play.
With 7:40 to play before halftime, McGuigan caught a deflection off the post and made a quick shot to tie the game at 3-3 before scoring his second goal three minutes later to give Misericordia its first lead.
Blair and Swiatkowski came alive in the second half. Blair scored the first of his goals a minute into the second half to make it 7-3. Swiatkowski followed two minutes later with his first, and both added insurance goals in the fourth to lock up the win.
Freshmen James Scott and Ryan Kay split time in goal. Scott made five saves, and Kay saved 14.
