The Misericordia University baseball team took full command in Tuesday's home game against Eastern. By the time the Eagles were able to put up a run in the fifth, the Cougars had already scored 12.
Brandon Calafut knocked in the first Cougar run in the first with an RBI double.
The Cougars put up five runs in the second capped by a homerun to left by Nate Newman. Rob Albertson and Mike D'Amara each knocked in runners, and Dave Albertson scored on a throwing error.
The Cougars had another huge inning in the fourth. Up 8-0, Newman scored on a throwing error. Later, with the bases loaded, Rob Albertson smashed a bases-clearing double to left center to give the Cougars a 12-0 lead.
Calafut lined a homer down the left field line in the fifth to give the Cougars a 15-2 edge, and Mike Murphy knocked in the team's final run on a fielder's choice in the eighth.
Ryan Dauley earned the win. He pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out six.
The Cougars host Baptist Bible tomorrow at 3:30.
