Cougars Close With a Win Over Marywood at PNC, 8-6

The Misericordia University baseball team closed its season with an 8-6 win over Marywood at PNC Field Sunday. With the win, the Cougars finished 22-18 and fell just short of the postseason.

 

The Cougars got on the board in the first with an RBI groundout by Mike D'Amara that scored Mike Murphy.

 

But Marywood evened the score in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Matt Newcomb..

 

Up 3-1 in the sixth, the Cougars pieced together the inning that would seal the win. Cody Hack picked up a pair of RBIs on a dropped sac fly—one of two costly errors committed by Marywood in the inning. The Cougars added five runs on four hits.

 

Marywood attempted a comeback in the seventh with a pair of runs. They were able to cash in on a pair of errors. Collectively, the teams posted seven total errors.

 

Marywood added two in the ninth on an RBI single by Newcomb and an RBI fielder's choice by David Lewis.

 

Murphy led the Cougars with two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Brandon Calafut and Hack also added two RBIs each.

 

Newcomb ended with three hits, two runs and two RBIs for Marywood.

 

Ryan Dauley went the distance, allowing six runs on eight hits. He struck out eight.
