The Misericordia University athletics department will add women's golf as a varsity sport, David Martin, director of athletics has announced.
“We’re excited about the addition of women’s golf at Misericordia,” said Martin. “Girl’s high school golf has grown and improved locally and we want to provide an opportunity for area women to compete on the collegiate level.”
The team will compete as club during the 2009-10 school year and will begin varsity competition in 2010-11.
The first institution in the region to sponsor women’s golf, Misericordia offers 23 varsity sports.
Tim Foran, head men’s golf coach at Misericordia, will also serve as head coach of the women's team at MU.
