MU Men Defeat Keystone 5-0

9/12/2009 5:32:29 PM

Six different players recorded points, including three freshmen, as the Misericordia men's soccer team easily dispatched Keystone 5-0 today at Mangelsdorf Field.

It was the first win of the season for the Cougars, who improved to 1-2-1 on the season.

Freshman striker Andy Bush put MU up 2-0 with a pair of early strikes. Just five minutes into the game, Nick Ferguson beat a defender down the left line and slid the ball across for Bush to tap in. Fifteen minutes later, Bush doubled the lead with his third goal of the season.

MU continued to pressure, with Tim Bullis shooting just wide after Ferguson again broke down the left side of Keystone defense and cut in along the touchline. Keystone defender Patrick Hulede was then booked after knocking sophomore winger Matt Scott out of the game with a crushing tackle at midfield.

Jay-P Evans gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead with a hard shot blasted in from the top of the box. Bullis also got himself on the score-sheet with two minutes to play in the half, slotting home after AJ Heintz had dribbled around the goalkeeper.

The Cougars kept up the pressure in the second half, with a dangerous Ferguson cross cleared over the bar just seconds into the half.

The chances continued to come, as Josh Yoo saw his breakaway attempt saved before Bush stole an errant goal kick but couldn't get a shot off under pressure from Keystone goalkeeper Ryan Gilroy.

MU's fifth goal came with 26 minutes to play, as Yoo played a fantastic headed flick through to freshman Eric Kishbaugh, who scored his first goal in a Cougar uniform.

Seniors Andrew Loyd and Lurae Brophy combined for MU's first shutout of the 2009 season. Gilroy made 12 saves for the Giants.

The Cougars out-shot their opponents 32-6 and held a 14-1 advantage in corners. On Tuesday, the Cougars travel to Susquehanna.
