The Misericordia women's soccer team lost 4-0 tonight to #17 Johns Hopkins, despite trailing by only a goal at the half.
Hopkins entered the game having played four of their five matches against teams ranked in the top ten nationally, so they were well prepared to face anything thrown their way.
As they had in previous matchups against nationally-ranked TCNJ and Ithaca, MU fell behind early, allowing the Blue Jays to score on the first shot of the game, just three and a half minutes into the opening period.
However, the Cougars kept their composure and defended well for the rest of the half, only allowing Hopkins one more shot on goal, although the Blue Jays did hit the post.
Johns Hopkins finally grabbed a second goal in the 58th minute before putting the game away with a penalty kick nine minutes later. The Blue Jays added a fourth in the final minutes of the match.
Freshmen
Sam Helmstetter and
Laura Roney recorded the only shots on goal for the Cougars.
Morgan Myers made seven saves in net for MU.
Misericordia is now 2-4, with all four losses coming to regionally or nationally-ranked opponents. Next up, the Cougars host Scranton on Saturday, 2 PM at Mangelsdorf Field.
