Cougars Women Are Defending Champs

The Misericordia University men's and women's swim teams will compete at the MAC Championships, Friday-Sunday at the Wilkes-Barre CYC.

The MU women are the defending champions while the men hope to improve on last year's third place finish. Both squads qualified all 17 team members for this year's championships.

Misericordia head coach Jason Morini and his Cougars have plenty of confidence heading into the weekend. “Our team has a reputation for dropping a lot of time after taper,” said Morini. “We understand that this comes from doing things the right way, not from luck or some secret plan. Our athletes believe that they have prepared for this meet more than our rivals."

The Cougars are seeded among the top three in all five relay events, including the top seed in the 200 free relay. MU won MAC relay titles in the 200/400 medley and 200/400 free a year ago.

Chelsea Mixon is seeded third in the 50 free while Alicia Bryk and Abby Kocon are fifth and ninth, respectively. Kocon is the defending MAC champion and Bryk was second.

Mixon and Kocon are seeded third and fourth in the 200 free where Kocon finished second in 2009.

Mixon and Kocon are seeded second and third, respectively, in the 100 free and Kiana Ramirez is sixth. Kocon is the defending champion in the event.

Crissy Condus is the top seed in the 200 butterfly where she finished third a year ago.

Bryk is seeded second in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.

Michelle Lacroce is seeded third in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM and Kocon is third in the 500 free.

For the men, junior Jeff Clark is seeded first in the defending champion in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and is seeded first in both events.

Defending champion Greg Vossler is seeded second in the 50 free and Clark is seeded second in the 200 IM. The Cougars are the defending champions in the 200 free relay and are seeded first in the 200 medley relay.

Action begins Friday at noon and continues through Sunday evening.
