Clark Strikes Again, Mixon Wins; MU Women Finish Second

Jeff Clark and Chelsea Mixon both won championships to lead the Misericordia University swim teams on the final day of the MAC Championships, Sunday at the Wilkes-Barre CYC.

The MU women added a win in the 400 relay on their way to a second place finish in the team standings while the men placed third.

Clark shattered the MAC, CYC pool and school records and met the NCAA B qualifying standard while winning the 200 breaststroke (2:07.05).

Mixon (54.79) edged teammate Abby Kocon (54.80) by 1/100 of a second to set a new school record and win the 100 freestyle.

Mixon, Kiana Ramirez, Kocon and Alicia Bryk teamed to set a new school record (3:40.70) while winning the 400 free relay.

Crissy Condus was third in the 200 butterfly while Brianna Hiltey and Laura Rinehimer were eighth and 14th.

Bryk and Megan McChesney were fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke and Danni Basile, Katlyn Nelson and Aubree Petrone were 10th, 14th and 15th.

Ramirez (56.34)was seventh and Michelle Lacroce finished 11th.

McChesney was ninth in the 200 back and Lindsey Young was 14th and Jessica Grant was 10th in the 1650 free.

The Cougars finished with 603 points and in second place to Lycoming (616).

For the men, Clark, Adam Grzech, Eric Schollmeyer and Greg Vossler set a school record (3:13.03) while finishing third in the 400 free relay.

Grzech (48.43) was third in the 100 freestyle while Vossler and Schollmeyer were sixth and eighth, respectively.

Kyle Geier finished fifth in the 200 butterfly.

Nick Cannizzaro was sixth in the 1650 freestyle and Matt Moates and Mike Dougherty were seventh and eighth in the 200 back.

Mike Labagh was eighth and Brendan Dougherty and Nick Ametrano were 10th and 16th, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke.

MU finished third in the team standings behind Widener and Albright.

Sunday's Preliminaries

The Misericordia University swim teams will wrap-up competition at the MAC Championships, Sunday evening at the Wilkes-Barre CYC.

The women's team must overcome a one-point deficit to Lycoming to repeat as MAC champions while the men's team is 33 points behind Albright for second place.

Jessica Grant and Nick Cannizzaro will open the finals in the 1650 freestyle.

Megan McChesney and Lindsey Young are in the consolation final in the 200 back while Matt Moates and Mike Dougherty are in the men's A final.

Kiana Ramirez, Chelsea Mixon and Abby Kocon are all in the finals of the 100 free while Michelle Lacroce made the consolation final.

Greg Vossler, Adam Grzech and Eric Schollmeyer qualified for the men's 100 free finals.

Alicia Bryk and McChesney qualified for the 200 breaststroke finals while Aubree Petrone, Katlyn Nelson and Danni Basile are in the consolation finals.

For the men, Jeff Clark and Mike Labagh are in the finals of the 200 breaststroke and Nick Ametrano and Brendan Dougherty are in the B finals.

Crissy Condus and Brianna Hiltey are in the 200 butterfly finals and Laura Rinehimer is in the consolation final.

Kyle Geier advanced to the finals of the 200 fly for the men.

The championships conclude with the 400 free relay where the MU women are seeded third and the men are sixth.
