Work Begins on New Baseball Field

8/15/2011 3:20:00 PM

After more than two decades of discussion and debate, Misericordia's version of “Field of Dreams” will become a reality.

The first step of the construction of the new baseball field – Tambur Field – has begun with the clearing of trees opposite McHale Hall.

Tambur Field, which will be used exclusively for baseball, will be located between McHale Hall and the Anderson Outdoor Athletics Complex and will include dugouts and permanent fencing.

The new home will be a welcome addition for a program that played just one home game in 2011 due to unplayable conditions on the current baseball facility.

“We're looking forward to having a new field on campus,” said Misericordia head coach Pete Egbert. “It's exciting to see work begin and it will be fun to see the progress right up until opening day.”

The Cougars baseball team is coming off its most successful season in school history as MU finished 30-16 and advanced to the winner's bracket final of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.

MU won its first Freedom Conference championship and had six players earn All-Freedom Conference honors.

Egbert was also named Freedom and ECAC South Coach of the Year.
