MU Lacrosse Announces Captains for 2012 Season

1/9/2012 4:14:00 PM

Misericordia men's lacrosse head coach Jim Ricardo, is pleased to announce the captains for the 2012 season.

The Cougars are coming off their best season in school history and would like to acknowledge the four captains. Seniors Lee Blair and Pat McTague, and juniors Kyle Calabro and Kurt Knecht will look to lead this year's team into the conference tournament.

“I feel very fortunate and excited about this year's captains and our 2012 campaign,” said Ricardo.  “These four individuals have trained extremely hard this off season and have taken our team under their wings.”

Lee Blair is coming off a spectacular season in which he finished second in the conference in total points with 56 (36g, 20a). “Lee is a dual threat every time he touches the ball. He can score anywhere on the field and has terrific vision to find that open player,” said Ricardo. “He has had a huge part in the success we have had over the last couple of seasons, and it's great for his teammates to recognize his leadership.”

Pat McTague, the team's MVP in 2010, is coming off another stellar season. “Pat is the team's do-it-all player. He is a grinder and leaves every bit of energy he has on the field. He has trained extremely hard this fall and is primed for a tremendous senior year,” said Coach Ricardo.

Junior Kyle Calabro is also coming off a terrific season. In 2011, his 34 goals were fourth in the conference and second on the team behind Blair's 36. “Kyle is a pure goal scorer. He can finish on any part of the field and has trained relentlessly this fall. His friendly personality has helped develop him into a terrific role model for our young players,” explains Ricardo.

Junior Kurt Knecht is another player who leads by example. “Kurt is the biggest and strongest player on our team, yet you would never realize it. He maintains an excellent work ethic both on and off the field, as evident by his 3.7 GPA. He is an emotional leader and is one of the back bones on our defense that returns all three starters,” says Ricardo.

“I am excited to announce the captains for the 2012 season. These gentlemen are ready to lead our program into great heights this season and years ahead,” said Coach Ricardo. The Cougars open 2012 down in Orlando against Berry College, March 6.
