Allison Kern has been named head women's basketball coach at Misericordia University, David Martin, director of athletics, has announced.

Kern comes to Misericordia after spending four seasons as a full-time assistant coach at William Smith College in Geneva, NY.

“It is my pleasure to introduce Allison Kern as our women's basketball coach,” said Martin.  “Her basketball knowledge, work ethic and recruiting experience will certainly be assets to our program.”

Kern, who will also serve as coordinator of athletics facilities at MU, inherits a team that went 17-11 and won a Freedom Conference championship a year ago.

“I'm excited about the opportunity to serve as head coach at Misericordia,” said Kern.  “Misericordia is a great place with a solid program.  I'm looking forward to working with everyone and continuing the winning tradition of Misericordia women's basketball.”

Prior to William Smith, Kern spent a year as an assistant coach at Hiram (OH) College.

Kern earned a bachelor's degree in political science from John Carroll University where she was a four-year letter winner and was the team's offensive MVP as a senior.

A native of Dayton, OH, Kern led the Chaminade-Julienne High School team to a number one national ranking during her junior season and an Ohio state title as a senior.
