Cougars Fall to 10-5 with 1-0 Loss

10/22/2013 9:00:00 PM

Box Score The Misericordia University men's soccer team controlled the ball for much of the game on Tuesday night, outshooting DeSales 21-6. The Cougars also generated several quality scoring chances but still suffered a tough 1-0 loss.

The loss moves the Cougars to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in Freedom Conference play while the win pushes the Bulldogs to 8-9 on the year and 2-3 in the conference.

The lone goal of the night was a beautiful conversion in the 22nd minute. Bulldog midfielder Nick Ciarleglio received a long pass that he chased down along the left side at the 10-yard line. He then demonstrated a few dribbling moves before sending a cross into a diving Isaac Mohr, who headed the ball past Cougar keeper, Barry Fitzgerald.

That was the only real scoring chance DeSales would generate in comparison to MU's multiple. The first good chance for the Cougars came just three minutes in when Nick vonEgypt rifled one high over the crossbar.

MU had another chance midway through the first period when David Malaquias had a header saved and then had his subsequent one-on-one attempt saved as well.

The Cougars tried to mount a charge offensively in the second half but Rob Wiacek's shot when high with five and a half minutes to play.

Fitzgerald made four saves on the evening.

The Cougars play next at FDU-Florham on Oct. 26
