MU Men Fall to King's in Freedom Semi's

Box Score King's scored twice in the final 20 minutes to defeat the Misericordia, 3-1, in a Freedom Conference men's soccer semifinal, Tuesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

David Stroh had a pair of goals for the Monarchs and Chris Nygren had two assists as the defending Freedom champions advanced to Saturday's championship game at Eastern.

Niall Croke added a goal for the Monarchs who improved to 14-5-1.

Chris Panagacos added a goal for Misericordia, who fell to 12-6-2.

Tyler Wilson made two saves to earn the win in goal for the Monarchs.

King's on the board early when Misericordia keeper Barry Fitzgerald came off his line and the ball deflected off him to the middle of the box where Stroh volleyed it into the empty net from 15 yards out at 7:27.

Misericordia had its first scoring opportunity three minutes later when Matt Norcini dribbled to the top of the box and ripped a shot that sailed just high.

The Cougars earned a corner at 19:00 and Rob Wiacek, who entered the game on a four-game scoring streak, put his header wide right.

King's had a chance three minutes off a throw from Nygren, but Stroh's shot from the near post went wide left.

Misericordia countered quickly with Panagacos ripping a shot from 25 yards out that sailed high.

MU served a ball into the box early in the second half that King's headed away, but Panagacos gathered the loose ball and grounded a shot back through the box that deflected off a Monarchs' defender and into the net to tie the score, 1-1, at 50:35.

Tyler Harlan nearly put the Monarchs back in front just three minutes later, but his shot from 20 yards out was high.

Misericordia threatened again when Christopher Edkins played a diagonal ball from the right side to Norcini, who dodged a defender, and ripped a shot from 15 yards out over the crossbar at 69:37.

The Monarchs went back in front when Nygren carried a ball to the end line before crossing to Croke for a diving header inside the left post at 72:43.

King's go an insurance goal on a corner by Nygren who found Stroh for a header and a 3-1 lead at 83:53.
