2008 Men’s Soccer

 

In their first season as a member of the Freedom Conference, the Cougars finished 14-4-3 and became the first Misericordia team to win a Freedom Conference championship.

 

MU reached the postseason for the 14th time in 16 trips and made their second appearance in the NCAA Championships.

 

Cody Hack, Tyler Mensch, Max Campbell and Cody Harman were first-team All-Freedom selections. Hack became the first Misericordia player to earn Freedom Player of the Year honors.

 

Joe Scanlon and Andrew Loyd made the second team.

 

Loyd was the MVP of the Freedom championship match.

 

Chuck Edkins was named Freedom Coach of the Year. He has a career record of 198-121-21.

 

Hack was named team MVP, and Campbell earned the Coach’s Award.

 

Campbell finished second in career assists (32), fourth in career points (32) and tied for fourth in career goals (28).

 

Mensch and Campbell finished tied for fifth in single-season points (31).

 

Mensch’s 15 goals was the third highest single-season total in school history. He finished third in all-time goals (39) and fifth in career points (82).

 

Hack and Campbell tied the school single-season record for assists (13).

 

Hack finished tied for seventh in career assists (17).

 

Campbell, Hack, Mensch, Josh Stewart and Josh Buskirk were honored as four-year lettermen.


2007 Men's Soccer


In their first season competing as Misericordia University, the Cougars finished 13-6-1. The team captured the first win for any MU team with a 2-1 win over William Patterson on August 31.


2006 Men's Soccer


Joe Jelinski was a first-team All-PAC selection and earned third-team NSCAA/adidas All-Region honors.


Max Campbell was second-team All-PAC, and Colin Hynes received honorable mention.


Campbell led the team in scoring with 21 points (8g, 5a), and Tyler Mensch had a team-high nine goals.


Jelinski was the team MVP, and Matt Sosalski received the Coach's Award.

 


2005 Men's Soccer


The Cougars finished 8-9 overall and missed the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference playoffs for the first time in 12 years.


Sean Kraus was a first-team All-PAC selection for the second straight year and was named team MVP.


Eric Bilger was named second-team All-PAC, and Joe Jelinski earned honorable mention. Paul Shiber made the PAC All-Sportsmanship team.


Terrence Mull earned the Coach's Award.


 

2004 Men's Soccer


For the eleventh consecutive season the Cougars qualified for the PAC playoffs. Sean Kraus was named to the first-team All-PAC. Kraus also earned the team MVP.


Colin Hynes, Eric Bilger and Kevin Franco were all named to the second-team All-PAC. Hynes also earned PAC Rookie of the Year honors and scored nine goals to tie him for tenth place on the all-time single-season records at CM.


The Cougars ended their season 8-11-1. Kraus and Stephen Ockenhouse recieved MVP and Coach's Award honors respectively.


Joe Ferrero, Franco, Ockenhouse, John Staub and Giovanni Tulino were honored as four-year lettermen.


 

2003 Men's Soccer


For the tenth consecutive season the Cougars qualified for the PAC playoffs. Vinnie Greer and Kevin Franco were both named first-team All-PAC. Greer, the team MVP, was a first-team NSCAA/Adidas All-Region selection.


In their first ever night game at Mangelsdorf Field, the Cougars beat Wilkes 1-0. MU was 7-2-1 overall at home and finished the season 10-6-3, while enjoying their 11th consecutive .500 or better season.


Brandon Smith earned the Coach's Award and was named the Wendy's Athlete of the Month for October. Seniors Greer, Smith, Kyle Barnett, Tim Connell and Dan Schmidt were honored as four-year lettermen. Franco was also a senior.


 

2002 Men's Soccer


For the ninth consecutive season the Cougars qualified for the PAC playoffs and advanced to the PAC championship game for the ninth time in 11 years.


Dave Kern and Geoff Fritz were named first-team All-PAC. Kern, the team MVP, was a first-team NSCAA/Adidas All-Region selection while Fritz made the second team.


CM was ranked 10th in the final NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings. Frank Corrozza, Jason TempestaTerrence Mull and were named second-team All-PAC. Fritz earned the Coach's Award.


The Cougars earned the top seed and won the ECAC Mid-Atlantic championship. Kern was the ECAC Championships MVP. Fritz ended his career in eighth place on the school's all-time scoring list, and Carrozza was ninth.


The Cougars finished 15-5-2 and enjoyed their 10th consecutive .500 or better season. Seniors Kern, Fritz, Carrozza, Pat Sosalski and Dave Ferguson were honored as four-year lettermen.

 


2001 Men's Soccer


For the eighth consecutive season the Cougars qualified for the PAC playoffs and advanced to the PAC championship game. Len Bartone and Geoff Fritz were named first-team All-PAC.


Bartone was a second- team NSCAA/Adidas All-Region selection. Goalie David Kern was named second-team All-PAC and third- team NSCAA/Adidas All-Region team and finished second in PAC in goals against average.


Juniors Fritz and Frank Carrozza also moved into the top-10 on Misericordia’s all- time scoring chart and Bartone ended his career in sixth place on the school’s all-time scoring list.


Seniors Bartone, Matt Brenner and Dan Cianci were all honored as four-year lettermen.

 


2000 Men's Soccer


This year’s team set a school record with 19 wins (19-2), won a third PAC championship in five years and earned the first NCAA Division Championship bid in school history.


They were also ranked among the national leaders with 15 consecutive wins and finished the season among the national leaders in winning percentage.


Len Bartone, Brian Blesi, Nick Bressler and David Kern were named first-team All PAC, and Geoff Fritz and Matt Stitzer were awarded second-team All-PAC. Kern was stellar in goal leading the PAC in goals against average (0.75).


Bartone, Fritz and Blesi all finished among the 10 scorers in the PAC. Bressler was nationally ranked in NCAA D-III leaders in assists.


Head coach Chuck Edkins earned his 100th win of his career in only his 9th year as coach of Misericordia.


Seniors Matt Boben, Bressler and Jason Hause were honored as four- year lettermen. Lou Lanzafame and Matt Stizer were also seniors.


 

1999 Men's Soccer


The Cougars enjoyed there seventh consecutive winning season. They returned to the PAC playoffs for the sixth straight year and made the championship match. Also earned their third ECAC playoff bid.


Mike McCue and Todd Bardua were named first-team All PAC selections, and Brian Blesi was honored with second team All PAC.


Bardua set a new school career record with 108 points. In addition, he ended his career with the school record for career goals (44) and tied the school single-season records for points (44) and goals (19). Seniors Gary Atherholt, Bardua, Dan Dowling, Peter Lauffer and McCue were honored as four-year lettermen.

 


1998 Men's Soccer


The Cougars enjoyed there 6th consecutive winning season and qualified for the PAC playoffs for the fifth straight season.


Peter Anzalone and Todd Bardua were first team All-PAC selections and Mike Blasi, Lenny Bartone and Ryan Foley made second-team. Coach Chuck Edkins was once again for the fourth year in a row named Coach of the Year in the PAC.


Blasi set a new school record with 102 points. In addition, he ended his career with school records for goals (42), single-season points (44) and single-season goals (19). Senior Anzalone, Blasi, Jeremy Fleeger, Foley and Brian Kirby were honored as four-year lettermen.


 

1997 Men's Soccer


The Cougars opened the season with a 12 game winning streak and returned to the PAC championship for the fourth straight year and winning the second straight year.


With the most wins in school history (18-4-1), the team earned its second ECAC playoff berth and advanced to the championship match for the second time.


In the PAC championship match, Tom Walsh was named Offensive MVP. Mike Blasi, Stephan Pill and Jeremy Fleeger were all named first team All-PAC, while Matt Shoener and Ryan Foley received honorable mention.


Coach Chuck Edkins was named PAC Coach of the Year for the third straight year. Pill ended his career as the team’s all time-leader in points (88) and assists (34). Blasi set the single season scoring record with 19 goals and 44 points. He also set the record for career goals with 34. Also keeper Foley, set a school record with 12 shutouts.


Seniors Terry Brennan, Michael Compeau, Pill, Shoener, and Walsh were honored as four-year lettermen.

 


1996 Men's Soccer


Misericordia reached the PAC title game for the third straight year, this year winning there first ever PAC championship. In the championship game, Matt Shoener was named Defensive MVP and Stephan Pill was named Offensive MVP.


The team finished the season 11-5-3, the second most wins in school history. Pill was named NSCAA/Umbro All- Region honorable mention, the first for any Misericordia player. In the PAC, Pill, Paul Zaengle and Jeremy Fleeger were all named first team All–PAC, and Coach Chuck Edkins was once again name Coach the Year in the PAC.


Pill set a new school record for assists with 13 and ended the season 3rd as the All time leading scorer. Eric Barlett, Jim Klein, Kevin Poplawski, Marcus Shelton, Marc Stauffer and Zaengle all received their Varsity M award for four-years of Varsity participation.


Stauffer finished his career as the second all time leading scorer (28g, 24a), right behind teammate Barlett (26g, 16a)

 


1995 Men's Soccer


The Cougars over came some early season obstacles to record another fine season and continue to establish themselves as perennial contender for the PAC championship.


The team and entire college community rallied together when junior goalkeeper Jim Klein was seriously injured in the third game of the season. The Cougars returned to the PAC championship for the second straight year and third time in four years. In the championship game, Paul Zaengle was named Defensive MVP.


A school scoring mark was set for the third consecutive year. Sophomore Stephan Pill tied the record for goals in a season with 12. Pill and Ted Malampy were named All-PAC.


Head coach Chuck Edkins was named Co-Coach of the Year in the PAC. Also for Edkins three members from his first team finished their eligibility including four-year starter Brian Brecht and three- year players Chris Keller and David TerBorg.


 

1994 Men's Soccer


Continuing on with the constant improvement under Edkins, the team had another record-breaking season. At 12-6-1, the Cougars set a school record for wins in season and finished 2nd in the PAC for the second time in three years.


The team earned a bid to the ECAC South Men’s Division III Tournament and came home with second place after a thrilling, overtime-shootout, upset over top-seeded Gettysburg.


Senior keeper Bob Johnson, who notched 11 shutouts setting a school record, led the team. Sophomore Eric Barlett established a new single season scoring mark, topping the one set by classmate Mark Stauffer a year. Barlett and Johnson were named All-PAC and Stauffer was named honorable mention All-PAC.


 

1993 Men's Soccer


With only two seniors on the roster again this year, Coach Chuck Edkins took the team to new heights. The team established teams records for shutouts and wins, while Mark Stauffer set the new single season scoring mark.


The Cougars opened up with a four match winning streak and up also ended the season 5-2 against MAC opponents and 5-1-1 at home. Stauffer, Eric Barlett and Bob Johnson were named to the PAC all-star team.

 


1992 Men's Soccer


The Cougars entered NCAA Division III play this year, and in just his second year as head coach, Chuck Edkins turned the men’s soccer program into a winner. Edkins coached the cougars to a 7-7-2 regular season record and a spot in the PAC championship game.


Coming up short in the final the team finished 7-8-2. As the teams leading scorers, freshmen Dave TerBorg and Jay Pierce both broke the schools single season scoring record.



1991 Men's Soccer


Under first-year head coach Chuck Edkins, the Cougars played their first season on Anderson Field.

CM finished 4-11, including a thrilling 1-0 win over Penn State-Harrisburg on Homecoming on a goal by Patrick Meek with just 11 seconds remaining.

Freshman goalkeeper Bob Johnson recorded three shutouts.

Steve Cook led the team in scoring with four goals and six assists.



1990 Men's Soccer

The Cougars finished 2-9.


Adam Smith led the team with four goals, while Andy Lynam and Steve Cook added two goals each.


The highlight of the season was a 4-0 win over Beaver.


Jason Maniskas and Steve Cook were first-team Keystone Athletic Conference all-stars, while Kyle Campbell and Rob Scarpa and were named to the second-team.
