Cougars Fall to Alvernia

9/27/2008 1:30:54 PM

Despite dominating play throughout most of the game, the Misericordia University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Alvernia University, Saturday at Mangelsdorf Field.

Alvernia made the most of its three shots and tallied the lone goal with less than three minutes remaining in the first half. Amy Mesce sneaked behind the MU defense for a one-on-one opportunity and placed a shot just inside the left post.

Thanks to a 22-3 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in corners, the Cougars had plenty of opportunities to tally the tying goal, including several in the closing minutes.

Kelly Bergin's direct kick caromed off the inside of the right post at 75:30 and Alvernia keeper Kirsten Kelley made a leaping save on a high shot by Jenica Keister at 82:00.

Liz Lipovsky ripped a left-footed shot right at Kelley from 15 yards out at 87:30.

MU will host Elizabethtown in a non-conference game, Tuesday at 7:00.
