Cougar Golf Hits the Links Over Spring Break

2/25/2009 1:27:36 PM

The Misericordia University men's golf team continues to build team chemistry. The Cougars return five letter-winners from last season after a 6-10 (3-2 PAC) finish. This season, they make the jump to the Middle Atlantic Conference.

The team lost its top shooter, Ryan Beliveau (82.9 avg), to graduation but maintain a strong veteran core in senior captains Mike Green and Andy Smith. “They're going to help some of the new kids become familiar with the courses and competition,” head coach Tim Foran said.

Green currently ranks ninth in career average (87.7). Last season, he averaged 87.9. Smith, a multisport athlete, will look to improve on his 91.1.

“This is the deepest team I have had in the five years I have been coaching at Misericordia,” Foran said. “I'm excited and hope to get off on a positive note as we journey down to Williamsburg, Va., for spring break.”

Seth Shober is a year removed from a freshman season in which he averaged 84.9—second only to Beliveau. Shober tied for fifth in school history with a low round of 77.

Other returnees include sophomores Daniel Grassi and Zachery Martin and senior Ryan Wesley.

Newcomers include freshman Bucky Aeppli and juniors Bryan Marzolino and Mike Sokolowsky.

The season opens April 1 at Immaculata. The Cougars host Alvernia and Eastern on April 7 and Wilkes and King's on April 14 at Irem Temple Country Club in Dallas.
