A short-handed Misericordia University field hockey team was undone in the closing minutes as the Cougars lost for the first time in conference play this season, 2-1 at King's.
Misericordia played most of the second half a man down but still managed to take the lead before falling on two late Monarch goals.
Competing with 10 players after a yellow card, MU took the lead three minutes after halftime. Freedom Conference leading scorer
Samantha Sorokas' shot from the right side snuck inside the far post and put the Cougars up 1-0.
Misericordia would again be left short-handed when junior
Haley Ellis was shown a red card with 20 minutes remaining.
King's tied the game up with just over 10 minutes to play, on a goal by forward
Jenera Quinones. It looked like MU would hold on into overtime, but the Monarchs's
Calli Berryman finished off a rebound in the 69th minute to grab the victory.
Freshman goalie
Haley Brandt (five saves) made her third straight start for the Cougars. Misericordia falls to 7-6, 3-1 and will host Delaware Valley on Wednesday.
