The Misericordia University field hockey team fell 3-1 to Wilkes on Tuesday, missing out on a chance to clinch a Freedom Conference playoff spot.
The Cougars (7-9) finish their conference slate at 3-4 and were eliminated from playoff contention after FDU-Florham defeated Manhattanville.
Down early, Misericordia tied it up at 1-1 midway through the first half.
Kelly Pelcher fed
Jen Lozier at the post, who crossed to
Samantha Panuski for the tap-in.
The Cougars had a great chance six minutes in when
Amanda Blank's shot forced a great full extension stick save from Wilkes'
Lindsey Davenport.
Davenport was hot all game, making seven saves including a tough block on
Haley Ellis in the second half with the Colonels protecting a two goal lead.
Wilkes had taken a surprise lead 10 minutes in, with leading scorer
Kaitlyn Bevans cleaning up after a goal-mouth scramble.
After halftime the Colonels grabbed two more in a three-and-a-half minute span, with goals coming from
Ashley Ream and Bevans.
The Cougars played a man-up for almost 12 minutes of the second half due to a pair of Wilkes yellow cards, but couldn't capitalize.
Besides Ellis' chance, Blank had a good look late but shot wide left.
Misericordia will wrap up its regular season on Thursday with a visit from Marywood.
