Amanda Blank had a part in four goals as the Misericordia University field hockey team won its 100th game under head coach
Robyn Fedor Stahovic, 5-0 over Manhattanville at Mangelsdorf Field.
Blank finished with a goal and three assists. Junior
Samantha Sorokas had two goals while classmates
Haley Ellis and
Emily Foley added one each.
Up 1-0 at the break, MU came out firing after halftime. A minute in, Blank crossed from the left side to Sorokas, who doubled Misericordia's advantage.
Four minutes after that, Blank again crossed one in from the left side, this time to Ellis who roofed her shot in to the upper netting for a 3-0 lead.
The Valiant goalkeeper later made a triple save on Foley,
Hannah McManus and
Kelsey DeBruyne as the Cougars were unable to jam the ball in.
But Manhattanville couldn't stop Blank as the junior found Sorokas again, this time from the right side, for her third assist of the game. Blank then grabbed a goal as well, redirecting DeBruyne's shot with six minutes remaining.
The Cougars had opened the scoring on their fifth corner of the opening ten minutes. Ellis played the ball in to Foley, who slotted it home for an early 1-0 lead.
A minute and a half after the goal, Sorokas had a breakaway shot that went inches wide of the left post. Sorokas had another good chance midway through the opening half that was tipped over the crossbar.
The Cougars open their 2010 Freedom Conference campaign with a victory and improve to 3-4 overall on the season. MU will host Catholic, Sunday at 1:00.
