The Misericordia University field hockey suffered a tough overtime loss to Eastern, 3-2, Saturday at Mangelsdorf Field.
Samantha Sorokas and
Kelsey DeBruyne both scored goals for the Cougars while
Samantha Sorokas added an assist.
Haley Brandt made nine saves in goal for MU.
The Cougars battled back from a pair of one-goal deficits to force overtime, but the Eagles tallied the game-winner less than two minutes into the extra session.
Despite being outshot 10-1 in the first half, Brandt made six saves to get the Cougars to halftime in a scoreless tie.
Brandt made a diving save on an Eastern corner to start the second half, but the Eagles took a 1-0 lead just 4:46 into the second half.
MU failed to capitalize with a man-advantage due an Eastern yellow card, but the Cougars did tie score at 48:04 when Sorokas took a feed from Gabriele and beat the goalie on the short side.
With just under 10 minutes to play, Eastern went up 2-1 with a rebound goal.
DeBruyne answered less than two minutes later with an unassisted goal to send the game into OT.
The Eagles converted a corner into the game-winning goal just 1:46 into OT.
The Cougars will play again at William Paterson, Tuesday.
