9/22/2012 7:45:00 PM

Box Score The Misericordia University football team had its highest scoring total of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Cougars fell to King's, 55-17, Saturday afternoon.

Shannon Johnson and Juwan Petties-Jackson both scored their first career touchdowns and Steve Clemson added his first field goal.

Quarterback Jeff Puckett was 17-34 for 193 yards.

Paul Brace had seven catches for 68 yards and Johnson picked up 43 yards on five catches.

While the Cougars had avoided turnovers and penalties during their first three games, they were haunted by turnovers against King's as the Monarchs converted all three MU turnovers into touchdowns.

After receiving the opening kickoff, the Cougars fumbled at their own four yard line and King's took just one play to take a 7-0 lead just 21 seconds into the game.

Petties-Jackson took the ensuing kickoff 61 yards to the King's 23 yard line, but the Monarchs picked off a pass on second down and marched 87 yards to take a 14-0 lead.

The Cougars put together a 13-play drive that ate up more than seven minutes to the end of the first quarter.

Puckett's one yard run on fourth down gave the Cougars a first down on their own 38 and he found Johnson for 12 yards for a first down across midfield.

Brace picked up 11 yards on a strike from Puckett to move to the King's 30, but a penalty backed MU up to the 45 and the Cougars eventually punted the ball away.

MU forced a short King's punt and the Cougars took over at the Monarchs 33.

After a holding penalty, Puckett found Johnson for 14 yards on second-and-20 and he connected with Brace for a 15-yards gain and a first down at the King's 14.

Cody Lamoreaux picked up five yards on first down and Puckett completed a nine-yard scoring pass to Johnson to make it 14-7 with 9:49 to go in the half.

Two possessions later, the Monarchs took an interception back 28 yards for a score and 21-7 lead with 2:25 remaining.

The Cougars went three-and-out on their possession and King's struck for a 73-yards TD pass with less than a minute left in the half.

King's opened the second half with an eight-play scoring drive and the Cougars responded with a nine-play drive of their own that resulted in a field goal.

Petties-Jackson took the kick back to the MU 37 and Puckett picked up a first down with a 32-yard run down the left sideline to the King's 27.

Puckett hit Brace across the middle for an 18-yard gain and a first-and-goal from the nine.

Clemson converted his first career field goal from 26 yards to make it 35-10 with 6:58 to go in the third quarter.

MU forced a punt on the next series and took over at midfield.

Brace picked up nine yards on first down and Lamoreaux's one-yard plunge gave the Cougars a first down at the King's 40.

Puckett found Petties-Jackson who made a leaping catch in the left corner of the end zone to make it 35-17 with 3:16 left in the third.

Michael Comerford, Hunter Pates and Chris Szabo led the MU defense with six tackles each.

Tanner Bulkley added a sack.

Misericordia, 0-4 (0-3 MAC), will host Stevenson for a 1:00 kickoff on Homecoming, Saturday.
