Box Score Misericordia University's run toward an NCAA Championship came to an end with a 5-1 loss at Middlebury in the Sweet 16, Saturday afternoon.
Megan Lannigan scored the lone goal for Misericordia in the second half on an assist from
Megan Mahoney.
Scarlett Kirk had a hat trick to lead Middlebury as the Panthers improved to 16-1-3 and extended its unbeaten streak to 19 games.
Misericordia had its unbeaten streak snapped at 13 and the Cougars ended the season at 19-3-2, the second-most wins in school history.
Middlebury avenged a 1-0 loss to Misericordia in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Kirk broke a scoreless tie in the 39th minute and Molly Parizeau headed home a corner to make it 2-0 just two minutes before halftime.
Kirk scored twice in the first five minutes of the second half to make it 4-0 and the Panthers added a goal off a corner in the 59th minute.
Lannigan got Misericordia on the board with her 16th goal when she finished a corner from Mahoney in the 72nd minute.Â
Mahoney added to her school record with her 19th assist and finished the season with a school record 53 points.
