Five Goal First Half Leads MU Past Marywood

Box Score Meghan Antrim and Emily Esposito each had two goals, Alyssa Mocion added a goal and an assist and the Misericordia women's soccer team moved to 5-0 with a decisive 6-0 win over Marywood on Monday.

The Cougars poured in five first half goals en route to the victory, which was a makeup from a postponed Sept. 11 contest. The loss drops the Pacers to 0-4-1.

Mocion started the scoring just under five minutes into the game when she took a pass from Caitlyn Boyle and then she added a helper just minutes later on the Cougars second goal. Mocion looked as if she was going to take the ball herself, but pulled it back and passed it to junior Erin Roberts, who fired a shot from 25 yards out. The shot floated just over the Marywood keeper to give Misericordia the 2-0 lead.

Antrim got her first of two first half goals at 41:35 when Megan Mahoney split two defenders before crossing the ball to Antrim, setting up a beautiful header into the left corner of the net. A minute later, Emily Esposito scored and Antrim put her in second of the night just before the half concluded off a free kick from Nicolette Ruffler.

The Cougars started the second stanza with 11 new starters but the offensive output wasn't quite done as Esposito quickly scored her second goal of the evening after taking a pass from sophomore Tina Colatriano in the 50th minute.

Every Cougar saw action in the game. Misericordia took 22 shots for the evening, 14 of which were on goal. Maureen Ciccosanti had one save in net while Kelly Mott recorded two.

Misericordia is back in action Sept. 18 at Lycoming before a Sept. 21 meeting with Messiah in a rematch of last year's NCAA semifinal.
