Box Score

Junior Erin McGreal was responsible for the Cougars second hat trick of the season and Megan Lannigan broke a 1-1 tie in the 54th minute to help lead the Misericordia women's soccer team past visiting Lebanon Valley College, 5-1, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

McGreal scored in the 5th, 65th and 66th minutes to lead the offensive charge, which came one game after junior Caitlyn Boyle registered three goals in the Cougars season-opening win over William Paterson.

With the win Misericordia improves to 2-0 while Lebanon Valley falls to 1-1.

The Dutchmen held strong in the first half, as the game was tied after the first 45 minutes. McGreal's first goal staked the Cougars out to a early 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game, but the visitors responded at 12:38 when Katie Deardorff took advantage of a Cougar turnover to put one past sophomore keeper Maureen Ciccosanti.

However, the final 45 minutes belonged to the Cougars as Misericordia was able to control the ball for much of the half. Lannigan's game-winner just nine minutes into the second was her second goal in as many games. It came after Boyle set up classmate Megan Mahoney, who had her initial shot by saved by keeper Becca Sykes. The redirection found the foot of Lannigan to give the Cougars a lead they would never relinquish.

Less than 10 minutes later, Mahoney found McGreal for her second goal of the evening and the two teamed up again just one minute later. McGreal now has seven points on the young season while Mahoney has contributed a goal and five assists, also for seven points.

Sophomore Meghan Antrim finished the scoring for her first goal of the season.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday at 5 p.m. when they host Susquehanna.
