Box Score The Misericordia University women's soccer team utilized a strong first half and suffocating defense en route to a convincing 5-0 victory over Susquehanna University on Saturday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
It was the third consecutive five-goal output for MIsericordia and moves the Cougars to 3-0 overall while the loss drops the Crusaders to 0-4.
Megan Lannigan scored two goals in the first half and
Megan Mahoney added a goal and two assists to help put the Cougars out front early.
Lannigan's first goal came just four minutes into the game after she received a long pass from sophomore
Jackie Wheatley. The pass got in behind the defense, allowing Lannigan an easy shot on net and subsequent conversion.
Just under 11 minutes later, Mahoney made a dazzling pass to Lannigan, splitting two defenders, allowing her teammate another easy shot for her second goal of the game. Lannigan now has four goals on the year and has scored in all three games.
Mahoney then assisted
Erin McGreal for the Cougars third goal before getting in on the action herself, making it 4-0 at 26:19.
Mahoney now has two goals and seven assists on the season.
The Cougar defense did not allow one shot by the Crusaders in the first 45 minutes, and allowed just four for the game.
In the second half, senior
Alyssa Mocion scored her first goal of the season to cement the victory.
Every Cougar saw action in the contest. The group will play again Wednesday when they host Marywood.
