Box Score The Misericordia University field hockey team turned in a dominant performance, Wednesday night at King's and
Jennifer O'Neill made sure it wasn't wasted.
O'Neill saved a ball from going over the end line, pulled it back, and used a reverse lift to score the only goal of the game 6:15 into the second overtime to give the Cougars to a 1-0 win.
After allowing two shots on goal in the first five minutes of the game, the Cougars held the Monarchs without a shot for more than 86 minutes the rest of the way.
Misericordia held a 22-2 advantage in shots, including a 13-2 edge in corners. The Cougars also had 21 penalty corners while allowing just seven.
Angela Pasquini stopped both of the shots against her to earn the shutout.
Pasquini came up big early in the first overtime as she came of her line to thwart a two-on-none breakaway opportunity.
The Cougars generated three shots while taking four corners in a three-minute span late in regulation, but were unable to find the back of the cage.
Lindsay Hischak put one of her four shots on goal with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation, but a King's defender was there to keep the game scoreless.
Hischak had another chance early in the first overtime, but the Monarchs' came up with another defensive save.
King's had back-to-back corners seven minutes into OT, but were unable to generate a shot.
The Cougars, in turn, were denied on three consecutive corners five minutes later.
Misericordia improved to 10-6 overall and remains in a three-way tie for first place in the Freedom Conference with DeSales and FDU-Florham at 4-1.
MU will host Delaware Valley, Saturday at 1:00 at Mangelsdorf Field.
