Box Score The Misericordia University field hockey team used yet another relentless offensive attack to cruise to a 5-2 victory over Delaware Valley on Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field. The Cougars improved to 5-1 in the Freedom Conference and clinched a post-season berth in the process.
Jennifer O'Neill led the Cougars with three goals and an assist while
Colby Eldridge had other two goals and an assist in the victory.
Hannah Harvey,
Lindsay Hischak,
Melanie Fry and
Emily Hegner also added an assist for MU.
Angela Pasquini earned the save in cage, collecting five saves and not allowing goal in 52 minutes.
Jenn Gazdick had three saves, including two late saves that kept the Cougars lead at 5-2. Hegner was also terrific defensively, racking up three defensive saves.
O'Neill's first two goals came less than two minutes into the first half with the first coming when she hammered home a rebound goal after a
Hannah Harvey shot that clanked the left post. Her second goal game after she deflected Eldridge's shot from the far side of the circle into the cage to give MU the 2-0 advantage just 1:53 into the game.
Eldridge extended the Cougar lead with her first goal of the game, finishing a cross from O'Neill at the 7:15 mark of the first half. Neither team scored another goal in the remainder of the half and the Cougars held a 3-0 advantage at the half.
Eldridge found the back of the cage for the second time, finishing a pass from
Melanie Fry. Hegner was also credited with the assist as the Cougar's fourth goal of the game came off of a corner just four minutes into the second half.
O'Neill added the Cougar's fifth and final when she finished a cross from Hischak at the 49:58 mark.
MU held a 24-17 advantage in shots in the victory.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 11-6 overall while Delaware Valley fell to 6-12 in the loss and 1-4 in the conference.
MU returns to action Tuesday night at 7:00 against Freedom Conference foe, Wilkes University, at Mangelsdorf Field.
