Box Score Meghan Antrim had a pair of goals and
Amber Hartranft added a goal an assist to lift the #9 Misericordia University women's soccer team to an impressive 5-1 win over Gettysburg, Monday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Â
Megan Mahoney and
Nicole Palanza both added goals and
Jacqueline Stevens had two assists for the Cougars who improved to 7-2.
Â
The Cougars erupted for four goals in a 22-minute span in the first half.
Â
After Gettysburg possessed the ball early without a serious scoring opportunity, the Cougars took advantage of their own scoring chances.
Â
Following an off sides call on the Bullets, Stevens served a ball from the left flank and found a hard-charging Antrim who one-timed the ball inside the left post from in front of the net at 12:53.
Â
The Cougars nearly scored again just three minutes later as Stevens carried down the middle and found Mahoney at the top of the box. Mahoney spun and fired a shot that was deflected wide of the right post.
Â
MU made it 2-0 at 23:23 when Stevens was ripped a shot from 15 yards out that ricocheted off a Gettysburg defender to Hartranft who buried the rebound past a diving goalkeeper inside the left post.
Â
The Bullets had a breakaway opportunity at 26:30, but MU's
Kylen Smith ran down the Gettysburg attacker at the top of MU box and regained possession.
Â
Smith showed her versatility at the other end as she started MU's third goal five minutes later. Off a re-start from the left side deep in the Gettysburg end, Smith served a ball into the box and Hartranft forwarded the ball to Antrim who slotted the ball home from 12 yards out at 32:25.
Â
Shortly after entering the game, Palanza scored her first goal when she finished a
Kailee Crockett serve near the left post for a 4-0 lead at 34:00.
Â
The Cougars picked up where they left off in the second half when Antrim found Hartranft on a breakaway and her shot was deflected off the right post, but Mahoney was there to tap home the rebound to put MU ahead, 5-0.
Â
The Bullets had a shot from the top of the box with 12 minutes remaining, but MU's
Alyssa Pojero was there to tip the ball over the crossbar.
Â
Gettysburg managed their lone goal with just 19 seconds to play.
Â
The Cougars will open Freedom Conference action when they host King's, Saturday at 5:00 at Mangelsdorf Field.
