Misericordia Field Hockey Set for NCAA Opener at Rochester

The Misericordia University field hockey team will make program history when it makes its first appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships, Wednesday at Rochester.

Coming off a thrilling 4-3 double-overtime win over FDU-Florham in the MAC Freedom title game, the Cougars will take on the Yellowjackets in their NCAA opener at 4:00 p.m.

The winner will advance to face Salisbury in the Sweet 16, Saturday at Ursinus.

Misericordia, 10-11, has won eight of its last 10 games with both losses coming in overtime to MAC Commonwealth opponents. The Cougars have won seven of their last eight road games, including two straight in the MAC Freedom championships. 

Senior Lindsay Hischak (14g, 11a) leads Misericordia with 39 while MAC Freedom Championships MVP Jennifer O'Neill (11g, 3a) is second with 25 points.  Kailey Vogl (8g, 5a) has 21 points and Colby Eldridge (4g, 6a) adds 14.

In goal, senior Angela Pasquini has a 1.84 goals against average with three shutouts and 76.9 save percentage.

The last time the Misericordia field hockey team won a conference championship, head coach Robyn Fedor Stahovic was a senior defender for the Cougars.  The team won three consecutive Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championships in the mid-1990's.

Rochester, 16-5, is making its second NCAA Tournament appearance via an at-larger berth after finishing second in the Liberty League.  The Yellowjackets fell to William Smith, 3-1, in the Liberty League finals.

Rochester fell to Montclair State in the Elite 8 in their first NCAA appearance in 2012.

Senior Michelle Relin (19g, 7a) leads the Yellowjackets with 45 points while Nicole Cerza (10g, 1a) adds 21 points.
Callie Fisher (7g, 3a) and Olivia Denny (5g, 4a) add 17 and 14 points, respectively.

In goal, Tara Lamberti has allowed 0.75 goals per game while stopping 87.5% of the shots she's faced.  She has recorded nine shutouts.

Tickets are priced at $6 for adults, $3 for students with ID, senior citizens, and military with ID. Children's tickets (under 12) are $2.
