The Misericordia University softball team split a pair of games at the ECAC South championships, Saturday in Bethany, WV.
The Cougars used a four-run sixth inning to beat Alvernia, 4-0, but fell to Penn State-Altoona, 10-3, in the winner's bracket final.
Misericordia will face Bethany in an elimination game, Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The winner will have to beat PSU-Altoona twice to win the ECAC title.
Bailee Schies tossed a three-hitter while striking out nine in the opener.
Melanie Quintanilla had two hits, including a double, and
Sam Hare and
Diana Kestenbaum added doubles.
In the nightcap,
Kristi Seiler had two hits, including a double, and
Whitney Ellenberg added two hits.
Penn State Altoona hit three homers in the first two innings to take a 6-0 lead.Â
The Cougars got two back in the bottom of the second on
Andi Veneziale's sacrifice fly and
Sam Hare's bases-loaded hit by pitch.
PSU-Altoona added two more in the fourth and two in the seventh.
