Rileigh Jo Evitts scored her first collegiate goal to lead the #15 Misericordia women's soccer team to a 2-0 win in their season opener, Tuesday at Cortland.
Jacqueline Stevens added a late insurance goal and Kirstin Murphy had an assist.
Maureen Ciccosanti and
Alyssa Pojero both had one save in goal.
After a scoreless first half, Murphy served a cross from the right end line and Evitts one-timed it home near the far post for her first goal in the 59
th minute.
Stevens knocked in her own rebound in the 85
th minute.
The Cougars held a 17-8 advantage in shots and had the game's only four corners in the second half.
MU will face Drew and Catholic this weekend at Centenary.
