MU Falls to Nationally-Ranked Stevenson

The nationally-ranked Stevenson University football team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back enroute to a 48-0 win over Misericordia University, Saturday afternoon in front of a Homecoming crowd at Mangelsdorf Field.

The Mustangs opened a 14-0 lead after one quarter and added three touchdowns and a field goal in the second quarter for a 38-0 halftime lead.

They closed out the scoring with a field goal and a TD in the third quarter.

MU's Brandon Leap was 10-24 for 66 yards through the air while Colton Pyne and Isaiah Solomon both had three catches.

Noah Bard and Rob Hart both had nine tackles to lead the MU defense while Anthony Rand-Willever had eight stops.

Garrett Murray and Matt Parrella both had interceptions for the Cougars.

MU punter Pat Newins averaged 47.8 yards on 10 kicks, including a 63-yarder and three kicks inside the 20.

MU's two best drives came in the third quarter, but both drives stalled deep in Stevenson territory.

On the opening series of the second half, Garrett Murray stepped in front of a Stevenson pass and MU took over at the Mustangs 42 yard line.

Mark McMaster made a shoe-string catch on a quick-out on second down for a 15-yard gain and a first down at the 25.

Three plays later, Leap was intercepted in the end zone to end the threat.

Following a Stevenson field goal, Klayton Kelly returned the kickoff 23 yards up the middle to the MU 30.

Facing 3-and-7, Leap found Josh Dieter across the middle for 15 yards and a first down near midfield.

Leap rolled out to his right on the next play and hit Pyne on the right sideline for another first down at the Stevenson 37.

The drive stalled at the 30 and the Mustangs took over on downs.

MU, 0-5 (0-4 MAC) will travel to King's, Saturday.
