Krisiak, Pyne Lead MU to Senior Day Win

Jeff Krisiak and Colton Pyne made the most of their Senior Day as both had record-setting performances to lead the Misericordia University football team to a thrilling 40-36 win over FDU-Florham in the season finale, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Krisiak set a school record with 284 yards passing on 26 for 26 while Pyne and Sam Gillison both set a school with 12 receptions in the game.

Krisiak added 91 yards on the ground and Clayton Vleck had 45 yards and three touchdowns.

Garrett Murray led the MU defense with 10 tackles and Josh Donaldson added nine.  Tyler Collins had five tackles, including a sack, and Jared Henn had two interceptions.

The Cougars took their first lead just before halftime and led throughout the second half until the Devils rallied for two scores and a 36-33 lead with 5:14 to play.

MU responded with a 12-play, 77-yard game-winning drive in the closing minutes.

Two quick passes to Pyne gave the Cougars a first down at their own 39.  After a short run by Krisiak, Pyne made a leaping grab on a slant for a 21-yard gain and a first down into FDU-Florham territory.

Facing third-and-eight, Mark McMaster made a nice catch on a quick out and went down the left sideline for a first down to the 27.

On second-and-seven, Gillison made a shoestring catch for a first down at the 16.

Krisiak picked up four yards on a draw play and found Gillison in the right corner of the end zone for the go-ahead TD with 1:11 to play.

Trailing 8-0 late in the first quarter, the Cougars answered with a 70- yard drive to open the second quarter.

On third-and-five from their own 35 yard line, Krisiak connected with Pyne in the left flat and he raced down the left sideline for a 35-yard gain to the FDU 30.

Gillison had an eight-yard reception for a first down and Krisiak hit Pyne on a 12-yard slant for the score with 13:47 remaining in the second quarter.

The Devils answered with a scoring drive and got the ball back deep in their own end when they took over on downs inside their own 10 yard line.

MU got the ball right back on an interception on the next play and the Cougars quickly took advantage.

Krisiak went up the middle for 14 yards to set up first-and-goal and Vleck bulled in from five yards out to get within 15-14 with 6:35 to go before halftime.

The Cougars forced an FDU punt and took over on their own 27.

Krisiak went off left tackle for 10 yards and connected with Pyne across the middle on a third-down conversion to midfield.

Pyne took an inside screen 18 yards to the FDU 32 and Gillison caught a quick out to the left for another first down at the 20.

Pyne made a diving grab to the two and Vleck followed a pile of blockers for the go-ahead score with 00:08 seconds to go in the first half.

Josh Donaldson and Nick Yeager both had nice pass breakups on the opening drive of the second half as the Cougars took over on downs.

The teams traded punts and Klayton Kelly's school-record 28-yard return gave the Cougars the ball near midfield.

Krisiak picked up 14 yards off right tackle hit Gillison for five yards to convert a third-and-five to the FDU 19.

A pass interference penalty moved the ball to the two and Krisiak went two yards on a draw to give MU a 27-15 lead with 4:07 left in the third.

FDU used a 74-yad kickoff return to set up a quick touchdown and the Cougars responded with a quick score of their own.

Kelly had a 34-yard return into FDU territory and Krisiak hit Gillison for 14 yards down the right sideline.

Vleck went untouched on a draw over the final 22 yards for a 33-21 lead with less than a minute left in the third period.

The Devils rallied for a pair of fourth-quarter scores to go back in front, 36-33, to set up MU's winning drive.

The Cougars finished their fifth varsity season 1-9 overall and 1-8 in the MAC.
