The Misericordia University softball team was eliminated from the MAC Freedom championships with a tough 3-1 loss to King's, Saturday evening at Wilkes

The Cougars led 1-0, but the Monarchs scored three runs over the final two innings to stay alive in the tournament.

Abby Marzzacco and Melissa Parker had two hits for the Cougars and Caitlin Kennedy had an RBI-single.          

Alissa Steier scattered six hits over seven innings and was the tough-luck loser.

MU went ahead in the bottom of the first inning when Marzzacco walked and raced to third on Parker's single to center field.  Kennedy followed with a single to left for a 1-0 lead.

The score stood until the sixth when King's put together a two-out rally to take a 2-1 lead.  The Monarchs went ahead on a single, hit by pitch and double down the left field line.

Misericordia threatened to pull even in the bottom of the frame.   

Parker led off with a single through the left side and Kennedy reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on Whitney Ellenberg's double to left center.  MU came away empty after a grounder and pop out.

King's added an insurance run with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.

MU threatened again with two down in the seventh.  Marzzacco was hit by a pitch and moved to third on Brennan's single to right field, but King's a strikeout to end the game.
