The Misericordia University softball dropped its opening game at the MAC Freedom Championships, 4-0, to FDU-Florham, Saturday afternoon at Wilkes.

Brittany Schies scattered six hits over seven innings and allowed just one earned run while absorbing the loss.

Whitney Ellenberg,
Diana Kestenbaum and
Mackenzie Yurko had hits for the Cougars.

FDU-Florham put its first two runners on in the top of the first inning, but Schies got a ground out and two pop ups to escape the jam.

The Devils got on the board in the top of the fifth with a lead-off walk and a two-out single to right field.

Diana Kestenbaum led off the bottom of the sixth with a single up the middle and moved up on a sacrifice bunt, but she was stranded at second.

The Devils added some insurance with two outs in the top of the seventh. After putting a runner on via error, FDU-Florham put together three straight hits to take a 4-0 lead.

The Cougars put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh on
Melissa Parker's walk and a single by Ellenberg.

Misericordia will face King's in an elimination game at 5:30.
