Colby Eldridge had a goal and an assist to lift the Misericordia University field hockey to a 3-2 overtime win over Eastern, Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Eldridge became just the seventh Misericordia player to reach the 100-point mark for her career.
Haley Gruber and
Madisyn Granoski each added goals for the Cougars.
Misericordia had a slight advantage in shots 20-16, but had a larger 15-8 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles had a 19-11 advantage on penalty corners.
Katelyn Campbell made six saves in goal as the Cougars won for the fourth straight time while improving to 7-8 overall and 4-1 in the MAC Freedom.
Eastern took a 1-0 just over a minute into the game, but the Cougars tied it up in the 14
th minute on a goal by Gruber. The Eastern goalie was able to stop Eldridge's initial shot, but Gruber was there to clean it up.
Eastern had many chances to take the lead back before the half ended, including a stretch of taking five penalty corners in a two-and-a-half minute stretch, but the Misericordia defense came up big each time.
In the second half, the Eagles regained the lead with 10 minutes to go in regulation, but again Misericordia was able to answer back two minutes later. Â
Kailey Vogl took a penalty corner and found Eldridge who fired the ball toward the net where Granoski was in the perfect place in front of the cage to tip it in to pull MU even.
Eastern had a chance as time expired when they earned a penalty corner with no time left, but the Cougar defense was able to clear the ball.
In overtime, the Eagles had a couple more chances to score, but two big saves by Campbell kept the Cougars in the game.
With just over 10 minutes gone in the first overtime, Misericordia found the goal it was looking for. Â
Tori Carsley went on a breakaway and fired a shot that hit the right post, but Eldridge was there to clean it up and knock it into the wide-open cage.
