The Misericordia University softball team clinched a MAC Freedom post-season berth with a sweep at DeSales, 5-2, 8-1, Saturday.
In the opener,
Melanie Quintanilla had two hits and two RBI and
Lori Brennan drove in two runs.
Caitlin Kennedy added a solo homer and
Brooke Moyle earned the complete game win on the mound.
Moyle was 3-for-3 in the nightcap, including a double and a triple.
Quintanilla and
Alexis D'Amico both score two runs.
Jordan Hoffman scattered six hits over seven innings to earn the win.
The Cougars did all their damage in the first three innings of the opener as the opened a 5-0 lead.
Quintanilla led off the game with an opposite field single and moved up a base on D'Amico's bunt single. Following a sacrifice bunt by
Abby Marzzacco,
Brennan doubled to center field to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
MU got two more in the second.Â
Mackenzie Yurko reached on a passed ball and advanced to third on
Taylor Kenerson's double to left center. Quintanilla doubled to the same spot as MU went ahead 4-0.
Kennedy's solo blast to left stretched the MU lead to 5-0 in the top of the third.
DeSales got two runs back on a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.
MU struck early in the nightcap as well with two runs in the top of the first.
Quintanilla was hit by a pitch and went to third as D'Amico reached on an error. Marzzacco drove in a run on a ground out and D'Amico came home on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
The Cougars used the same formula to get two more runs in the third.

DeSales scored its run on a solo homer in the third and the Cougars got it back with doubles and Kenerson in the fourth.
The Cougars put the game away with three runs in the sixth.
Moyle led off the inning with a triple to right center and scored when Yurko reached on an infield error. Kenerson was safe on an error and a double steal put runners on second and third. Quintanilla drove in a run on a ground out and D'Amico closed out the scoring with an RBI-bunt single.
The Cougars are 20-18 overall and finished tied for third in the MAC Freedom at 8-6. MU will wrap up the regular season at Lycoming, Sunday.
